“The Light of knowledge is fully capable of destroying the darkness of ignorance. This also helps us in overcoming all the difficulties and in achieving success in all our endeavors.”— Samveda

In this quest for the never extinguishing light of knowledge, Dhupguri Girls’ College started its journey in 2013 with the Bengali Department, as one of its major departments. As the journey continued, the Department of Bengali initiated the first batch of Bengali Honours course in 2018. The faculty members, Dr. Keya Mustafi and Mrs. Jyotikona Barman have been relentlessly involved in the process of proactively teaching and guiding the students of the department in both academic and non-academic domains.

The students also get to express their views and skills in the form of writings and artworks in the regular editions of wall magazines and college magazines. The students take active participation in various cultural events organized in the college.

The alumni of the Bengali Department have been enrolled in Masters’ degree courses and B.Ed. courses in various esteemed universities. The Department strives to thoroughly motivate, support, and prepare the students for their current and future endeavors.

DEPARTMENT OF BENGALI

The students here get exposure to the incomparable wealth of Bengali language and literature, not just within the four walls of the classroom, but also through interactive sessions like student seminars, quizzes, debates, group discussions, essay competitions as well as through excursions to places of cultural importance.

Future Plans

  • Curriculum and Course Enhancements: The Bengali Department might focus on updating and enhancing its curriculum to include contemporary literature, linguistic studies, and cultural aspects of Bengali-speaking regions. It could also explore interdisciplinary courses to make the department more versatile and relevant in today’s world.
  • Research and Publications: The department is likely to encourage and support faculty and student research, leading to the publication of academic papers, books, and journals. Research could cover various aspects of Bengali language, literature, linguistics, and culture.
  • Collaboration and Exchange Programs: To foster cultural exchange and promote Bengali language and culture globally, the department may establish partnerships with other universities and institutions in different countries. This could lead to exchange programs for students and faculty, encouraging a broader understanding of Bengali culture and language.
  • Community Outreach and Language Preservation: Recognizing the importance of preserving and promoting the Bengali language, the department might engage in community outreach initiatives. These could include language learning workshops, cultural events, and activities to celebrate Bengali heritage.
  • Linguistic and Dialectical Studies: Bengali has various regional dialects, and the department might focus on preserving and studying these linguistic variations. Research on endangered dialects and language documentation could be a priority.
  • Translation Studies: As Bengali literature gains more recognition worldwide, the department may emphasize translation studies to make Bengali literature accessible to a broader global audience. This could include translating classic and contemporary works into other languages and vice versa.

It’s important to note that these are speculative future plans and may not reflect the actual direction the Bengali Department takes. The specific goals and strategies of any department would be determined by its faculty, administration, and the evolving needs and priorities of the academic community and society at large.
